A knowledgeable breeder will look to outcross his bloodlines in order to introduce new genes for the purpose of boosting the dog’s immune system. When you see breeders bragging about the inbreeding they are doing, you know right away that they know nothing of breeding. Inbred dogs have very weak immune systems. If you recall, when European explorers first sailed to new lands, many of the populations were wipeout by dieses that the Europeans carried but were immune from. The peoples in these lands did not have a diverse immune system as they were in effect inbred. Out-crossing pulls in new genes that boost the animal’s defenses.
